The Yearbook Program at Smithers Secondary is currently in its third year as an all-digital endeavour.
As far as we are aware, our program is unique in Canada as the only yearbook produced entirely in Photoshop. We choose to work this way because it affords us complete visual control.
Senior editors and designers are hand-picked from the ranks of the Level One course in Digital Media.
In the following year, they work for course credit and assume all reponsibilities for the book's production, including photography, writing and design.
This year's senior editorial staff numbered three but we will be doubling that number next year as the program continues to grow.
The 2003 book was submitted to the Canadian Yearbook Review and scored in the top 20 in Canada (among some 400 entries).
The 2004 book's cover was submitted to a Friesens Canada contest for yearbook covers and beat out more than 300 entries to win.
Our winning cover and its designers were featured in our regional newspaper, the Interior News in May 2004.
And at school, we used our prize (a Sony Playstation 2) as a fundraising vehicle, raffling it off to the student body to raise money for spot colour pages in next year's book.
The pages sampled here are but a few examples to showcase our style and design savvy.
